Guardian Family Program

What is a Guardian Home?

Guardian homes are a vital part of our breeding program, giving families the chance to care for a dog as their own while the dam or sire participates in breeding. This arrangement allows our dogs to live full, loving lives in a family environment rather than in kennels.

Our Guardian Home Program lets us expand our breeding ethically, prioritizing the well-being and happiness of our dogs. By keeping them as cherished family members, we help them reach their full potential.

Guardian dogs are part of our breeding program but also become beloved companions in your home. If you’re interested in this rewarding experience, keep reading!

Guardian Home Requirements

Part of the Family

Guardian families must have a fenced yard, and a pre-placement home visit is required. An adult should be available part-time to care for the dog. We prioritize pets who live indoors and are fully integrated into family life. Homes with children are preferred for proper socialization, and some pet restrictions may apply due to breeding considerations.

Live Close-By

Guardian homes should be located in Northern California, ideally within an hour of Orangevale, CA, and be flexible for dog-related activities such as health testing, vet visits, breeding, and whelping puppies. Guardians are responsible for transporting the dog to us as needed, though we provide assistance with transportation whenever possible.

Home Full of Love

As a Guardian Home, your primary role is to love and care for the guardian puppy as your own. You’ll be responsible for their daily care, routine maintenance, and medical needs, including vet visits, grooming, and health monitoring. Promptly informing us of any concerns lets us make decisions together to ensure the dog’s health and happiness.

Premium Nutrition

Guardian families must provide the same food as Ugly Dad Doodles and meet any additional dietary needs, especially during pregnancy. We prioritize premium nutrition to support health and prevent issues such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, and allergies, ensuring long-term well-being. Our goal is for all Ugly Dad Doodles to enjoy long, healthy, happy lives.

What Does Being a Guardian Family Look Like?

As a Guardian Home, you commit to raising, training, and loving a dog as a permanent member of your family. If selected for our program, you’ll receive a puppy from a litter at 8–10 weeks old. While you cover routine care expenses, City View provides all reproductive testing and pregnancy-related costs. Health testing for your puppy is completed between 4–11 months of age.

Once your dog passes health testing and meets age requirements, she will become part of our breeding program. You will care for her during pregnancy, while she stays with us for whelping and raising her puppies until they are weaned, usually about five weeks. After a maximum of four litters, she will retire with you and remain your beloved companion. As a Guardian Family, you’ll also have the unique opportunity to be involved as we raise her puppies.
